School Health & Safety Update - Current Heatwave
Dear Parents/Carers,
With the current heatwave being experienced and temperatures predicted to rise this week, please be advised of the following steps in place at school:
What are we doing to stay cool?
- Keeping hydrated, using and refilling water bottles throughout the day
- Encouraging the children to wear sun hats
- Minimising any physical activity
- Modifying learning activities to minimise physical exertion
- Maximising the use of the shaded areas on the field; ensuring time at the end of lunch is spent under the trees in the shade to enable pupils to cool down and on Wednesday and Thursday children will sit in the shade for the whole lunch period. They will be collected from the shaded area at the end of lunch by their teacher.
- Avoiding large group gatherings indoors, e.g. assemblies in the hall
- We have two rooms with air conditioning: breakfast club and the ICT suite. These have been timetabled for the children to have a morning and afternoon cooling down period within these rooms.
- Allowing the children to wear their PE kits to school.
If your child is struggling with sleep and/or not feeling well with the levels of humidity, especially those predicted for Wednesday and Thursday, please use your parental judgement as to whether they are well enough to come to school and inform us using the usual methods of communication for absences.
