Tennis Tournament: I remember writing about last year’s tournament and how well Glebe had participated in their first borough tennis competition and Stuart Wilkinson (the team’s coach) said that he felt that we would do well this year. Well, guess what? He wasn’t wrong. Both Glebe Teams made it to the quarter finals and Team A went on to the final where they played a very strong Whiteheath Junior team. Glebe walked away with the silver medal! This is a fantastic achievement and the furthest we have got in a competition for a number of years. The two teams were made up of pupils from Year 4 and the delight and pride on the children’s faces when they have been to show me their medals over the last two days has been wonderful to see. Congratulations to Archie, Dylan, Saneh and Sienna from the A team and Fletcher, Michael, Eleni and Brooklyn from the B Team. Thank you to Stuart Wilkinson for coaching the team - this puts him in pole position for scooping the Glebe Coach of the Year Award (which has been hotly contested throughout the year by Mrs Long, Mr Budden and Mr Meyrick – they were so busy competing with each other they took their eye off the competition – the professional tennis coach!) Thank you also to the parents who came to support and cheer the teams on. It was more exciting than Wimbledon!
Year 4 Sports Festival: On Thursday Year 4 pupils took part in the sports festival run by Year 7 pupils from The Douay Martyrs Catholic Secondary School. The children participated in a range of sporting activities and competed for their house teams. Thank you to Mrs Long and the P.E. department at Douay Martyrs for organising such a great event.
Hockey League: Please see the sports report from last week’s fixtures written with a very professional flare by our Head Boy, Ross, which will be sent out with this newsletter.
